The Chief Alchemist delivered a range of different samples from around the island for Year Five to investigate. The samples came from: Rainbow Dunes, Fogwind Swamp, Copper Nook, the Steel Mines, Gem Well, Crystal Hedge Forest, Silver Shingle Beach as well as an unknown location.
The class had to investigate the properties of each material by testing for flexibility, hardness, permeability, magnetic attraction. Some children even managed to test for electrical and thermal conductivity too.
Cornflower and water mix proved to be an interesting (and rather messy) investigation and the children studied a microscope image of the particles to understand why it behaves in such a way.
